Equitable Pricing

Traditional therapy business models rely on methods that create financial barriers for people who need help.

I am building a practice that values equity and accessibility. Using an equitable pricing model is one way to create a more equitable system.

Market value for therapy in this area is upwards of $180 for a 55-minute session. My rate is $165 per session. This is the cost to support practice operations, license requirements, and my own basic expenses.

I recognize this market rate impacts each person differently and disproportionately marginalizes folks who encounter barriers of marginalities and earning access. To address this, I am using the following scale and invite you to locate yourself within it.

Since financial circumstances vary, I will check in about this every 6 months. This will enable me to share how the model is working, introduce any changes, and hear from you whether the rate you have chosen still reflects your current circumstances.  A detailed guide to "locate yourself" is sent via email prior to your free consulation.

1

My Regular Rate

$165/session

I ask folks to select this rate if they are able to meet their basic needs comfortably along with a few expendable wants with this rate budgeted in.

2

Reduced Rate- Level 1

$130-$165

This is below the market/my regular rate for those with limited financial resources and experience some barriers to comfortably meeting needs and wants.

3

Reduced Rate- Level 2

$90-$130

This is below market rate for those with extremely limited financial resources. I am hopeful that you will be able to access support without financial strain.

Some questions to consider when choosing your rate:

1. Do you or your family own property?

2. Are your bills or credit cards set up for autopay?

3. Do you have access to health insurance and have the potential for insurance reimbursement?

4. Do you possess little to no debt?

5. Do you have access to family wealth and/or resources in times of need?

6. Are you a U.S. citizen, or do you not experience any marginalities that could create barriers to earning potential?

7. Do you have access to a partner's income? Do you not have dependents?

8. Can you comfortably meet basic needs, with disposable income for wants (vacations, eating out, etc)?

9. Have you attended or do you have the potential to attend college and/or graduate school?

Payment &
Insurance Reimbursement

Payment is due at the time of service through credit card or HSA. I utilize a HIPAA compliant payment system where your credit card information will be securely stored.

I am an out of network provider (meaning I do not accept insurance), but most insurance companies provide reimbursement for therapy.  I will provide an invoice (called a Superbill) with all the information you need to obtain reimbursement from your insurance.

Please ask if you have any questions! When contacting your insurance to learn more about out of network benefits, some initial questions to ask are:

1. Do I have out-of-network benefits?

2) Do I have a deductible and if so, what is it?

3) What is the maximum number of visits per year?

4) If there is no reimbursement, can I set up a “single-case agreement”?

5) What is the out-of-network reimbursement rate?
