Therapy Where All Parts of You Are Honored & Celebrated

MIXED RACE BLACK THERAPIST IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

I'm a mixed race black therapist in Oakland, across California, and across Washington offering therapy for women of color, gender non-conforming people of color, multiracial and mixed race identity, grief, and religious trauma.

You know what it's like to be pulled in different directions by family, by community, by the world's need to categorize you into one box.

Maybe you have spent your life translating yourself. Softer here, sharper there, never quite "enough" of either. You are not broken. You are carrying something complex, and you deserve support from someone who actually gets it. I specialize in supporting women of color and gender non-conforming people of color.

I'm a mixed race Black therapist supporting clients in Oakland, Dimond District, Lake Merritt, and Fruitvale. I provide online therapy all across California and Washington state. It would be an honor to journey with you as you explore your identity and learn to live more confidently, authentically, and unapologetically as yourself.

Does this sound familiar?

Each person's experience is unique, so how we care for you and your story will be personalized to your experience. Some of what we might work through together:

  • Feeling pulled in different directions by different parts of who you are.

  • Code-switching so often that it's hard to find your own grounded center.

  • Questions about belonging: to a family, a community, a culture, a category.

  • Different lineages, different histories, and learning what's yours to carry and what you're allowed to release.

  • The reality of holding generational and cultural trauma from different lineages.

  • Power imbalances within cultures you belong to, family systems, communities, and the wider world.

  • Navigating relationships with family who may not fully see or understand this part of you.

What is it like to work with a mixed race black therapist?

Therapy should be a place you can exhale. As a mixed race black therapist in Oakland, CA and online across California and Washington I understand the importance of you feeling seen and understood. While every person's experience is unique to them, it can be helpful to work with a therapist who has a similar enough experience where you don't have to explain every little detail of what it means to be you.

Working with someone who has both lived experience and professional experience supporting people of color and multiracial individuals can give you space to process and unpack with someone who understands.

The Therapy Process

Process

Understand Your Experience

What is it like to be you? Therapy is a space where you can share freely and explore what it feels like to be in your body and experience on a daily basis. There is no judgement or criticism here, you will be heard with kindness and respect.

Validate

Your Experience Matters

Your lived experience matters. Our work is a place you will be validated and heard. Each part of your experience deserves to take up space and be witnessed.

Honor

All Parts of You Belong

Each part of you is worthy of being honored. The different cultures and histories that shape who you are all belong. Therapy can help you feel more connected to each part of you and more grounded in a sense of who you are when all of those parts come together.

How Therapy Can Help

  • Feel validated in your experience and emotions.

  • Share in a space where you will be understood and heard with curiosity and respect for your experience.

  • Understand and feel more confident in your authentic self.

  • Grow a relationship to yourself of kindness, compassion, and honor for all parts of you and your identity.

  • Heal the root of your pain and struggles using body-based support and IFS therapy that helps you release and heal what is no longer yours to hold.

IFS Therapy & Multiracial Identity

As a mixed race black therapist, navigating complexity has been a lifelong journey for me. I am grateful to be able to join clients in their own process of identity exploration.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) along with body-based work is particularly helpful when understanding and honoring the different cultures and ethnicities that make up who you are. IFS believes that inside every person is a kind and good true self alongside seeing different emotions, parts, and experiences inside each of us as something to be respected and listened to.

This allows space for each part of your heritage, identity, and experience to belong and be heard.

By using an approach that supports complexity and helps you listen to your own inner wisdom we can help you let to of what is no longer yours to hold while also feeling more confident living as your full and authentic self.

Mixed Race Identity & Grief

Grief therapy is one of my specialties and whether you find yourself grieving the loss of a loved one, a pet, a community, or another transition you don't have to hold it alone. You might come from different cultures that process and respond to loss in different ways, adding another layer to navigate.

We will create space to process your loss, the different ways grief has been held in your families, and discover how you personally want to honor what you have lost.

Mixed Race Identity & Religious Trauma

Religious trauma is another specialty of mine and this work can intersect with cultural identity as you navigate the different ways your families might experience religion and spirituality. Religion is often tied to deeper meaning of belonging and shared rhythms in cultures.

We can explore and unpack what your personal experience has been, and what you want to keep, release, or redefine for yourself. You will also have space to heal the deeper layers of harm that happened.
